The Muttrah Teleferik cable car project in Muscat is moving closer to its anticipated trial run scheduled for December, offering a range of new investment opportunities aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has outlined several avenues for SMEs to participate in this high-profile tourism initiative in Oman.
SMEDA’s investment offerings target businesses operating in specific licensed sectors that present innovative and value-added proposals to enhance the overall visitor experience and support the project’s economic sustainability. These opportunities include ventures in adventure, entertainment, retail, food and beverage, and digital advertising.
Among the notable projects put forward are a mountain bike trail, a mountain toboggan run, digital advertising installations, a giant swing attraction, indoor children’s play facilities, outdoor kiosks and restaurants, a specialized flower shop, and a confectionery outlet focused on Omani sweets. The mountain bike project would feature off-road cycling along a trail between 500 and 700 meters long, located at the Summit Station. The toboggan run would involve single or double rides on a secure metal track approximately 867 meters in length, winding down the mountain slopes.
In addition to physical attractions, SMEDA is facilitating the installation of digital LED advertising screens at cable car stations to boost visitor engagement and create further revenue streams. The proposed indoor family entertainment zone would be climate-controlled and designed to provide educational and recreational activities for children.
To support SMEs in these ventures, SMEDA is offering several incentives, including assistance with visual identity design, promotional support through the Muttrah Cable Car’s media and marketing channels, possibilities for partial investment in select projects, and expert consultancy in operations, marketing, and business development. Furthermore, funding of up to RO 500,000 is available under the terms of the Riyada programme, subject to eligibility.
This integrated approach aims to stimulate economic participation among SMEs while enriching the tourism offerings at one of Oman’s most prominent upcoming attractions. The Muttrah Teleferik cable car project is expected to become a significant draw for both domestic and international visitors, with these diverse investment opportunities enhancing its appeal and commercial viability.
