The Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu Cycling Team is set to compete in the 30th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) from September 27 to October 4, aiming to bolster China’s presence in the race. The team will be led by experienced climber Jonathan Klever Caicedo Cepeda, whose recent performances have positioned Chengdu as a strong contender in the event.

China has faced challenges in asserting itself at LTdL since Wang Meiyin’s Stage 3 victory in 2013 at Cameron Highlands. However, optimism surrounds this year’s team following Caicedo’s addition in June. A ten-time career race winner, Caicedo recently guided Chengdu to victory at the Tour of Qinghai Lake in July, underscoring his current strong form. Emir Abdul Jalal, chief operating officer of LTdL26, highlighted Caicedo’s signing as a strategic move, noting the team’s clear intention to contest for the General Classification leader’s jersey.

Alongside Caicedo, Chengdu’s squad includes 29-year-old Petr Rikunov, a two-time general classification champion at the Tour of Poyang Lake in 2024 and 2025. The team is rounded out by versatile riders Andrei Stepanov and Mongolian cyclist Bold Iderbold, who bring additional depth and tactical options.

The 2026 edition of LTdL will introduce a new mountain stage at Gunung Jerai on Stage 2, supplementing the well-known climbs of Cameron Highlands (Stage 4) and Genting Highlands (Stage 5), which are traditionally decisive points in the race. The route starts in Shah Alam and concludes in Putrajaya.

With its combination of proven talent and challenging terrain, the Chengdu Cycling Team seeks to make a significant impact in this year’s competition, aiming to revive China’s competitive standing in Le Tour de Langkawi.
