Callum Walsh secured a unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Tyler Denny in a closely contested boxing match held in Dublin on Saturday. After being knocked down early in the fight, Walsh, who was recently signed by UFC president Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, rallied to dominate the remainder of the bout.
The 25-year-old Irish fighter came out aggressively in the opening round, employing rapid combinations that appeared to overwhelm Denny. However, near the end of the round, Walsh was caught by a delayed chopping left hand, causing him to touch the canvas. Walsh responded strongly in the second round, flooring Denny with a powerful left hand followed by a nearly follow-up knockdown from a hook.
From the third round onwards, Walsh took control of the match, using his combination punching effectively to maintain the upper hand. Despite signs of fatigue in the later rounds, Walsh’s continuous body shots and flurries of punches kept Denny under pressure. In the sixth round, a forceful right hook visibly shook Denny and earned an acknowledgement from the British fighter, a former European champion.
The contest intensified in the second half, with Denny attempting to disrupt Walsh’s rhythm by increasing his physicality. Both fighters were penalized with point deductions in the eighth round—Walsh for holding and Denny for delivering blows to the back of the head. Nevertheless, Walsh’s perseverance paid off as strong body shots in the eighth and a combination of punches in the ninth left Denny on unsteady legs. Walsh sealed the victory with a precise right uppercut in the tenth round.
The judges scored the fight 98-91, 98-91, and 96-90 in favor of Walsh. Following the bout, Walsh acknowledged the toughness of his opponent and expressed that he could have performed better, citing familiarity with experienced fighters like Andy Lee and others watching ringside. This victory marks an important step in Walsh’s career as he continues to rise under White’s promotion, highlighting his resilience and skill in a challenging contest.
