The University of Cambridge has announced it will establish the Rokos School of Government following a substantial commitment from investor Chris Rokos. The institution is set to receive £190 million from Rokos, a sum believed to be the largest single donation ever made to a British university in modern times.

The funding commitment includes an initial £130 million to support the new school. An additional £60 million will be provided by Rokos, contingent on the university matching this subsequent funding. This significant donation will underpin the establishment and operational launch of the Rokos School of Government.

Cambridge stated that the new school will focus on preparing future political leaders, equipping them for roles in both domestic and international governance. The initiative aims to foster a new generation of policymakers with a comprehensive understanding of complex political landscapes.

Chris Rokos, a 55-year-old billionaire hedge fund manager and founder of Rokos Capital Management, expressed his motivation for the donation. He highlighted the transformative impact of his own education, stating his desire to "give something back to Britain." Rokos also articulated his hope that the school's influence would eventually become a key component of the UK's soft power globally.

Rokos's educational background includes studying mathematics at the University of Oxford. Prior to founding Rokos Capital Management, he worked at Goldman Sachs and co-founded Brevan Howard asset management. He has a history of philanthropic contributions, including financial support for scholarship programs at Eton and various initiatives linked to Pembroke College, Oxford.
