Cottin explained that while “con” is a crude term, “connasse” carries a sharper, more pointed connotation, describing someone mean-spirited or disdainful.
"Connasse" gained notoriety for its bold and sometimes controversial pranks. One infamous incident involved Cottin attempting to scale the gates of Kensington Palace in London to court Prince Harry as part of the show’s film adaptation. Contrary to common misconceptions, the actress did not spend two nights in jail as a result, but she was briefly detained and received a stern warning from authorities.
The show’s producers initially considered changing its provocative title due to concerns about public reception and the potential personal impact on Cottin. She admitted she did not anticipate the series would garner the level of attention it ultimately did. Following its release, she recounted experiencing heckling in public spaces, including being shouted at with the insult associated with the show’s name while shopping, a situation she recounted with humor.
