Australian midfielder Cammy Devlin has expressed enthusiasm ahead of his upcoming European debut for Rangers in their Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok. The match, set for Thursday night, marks a significant milestone in Devlin’s career as he aims to contribute to Rangers' continental ambitions.
Growing up in Australia, Devlin recalls the challenge of watching high-profile European games due to time zone differences. “They were on throughout the night back home in Australia, so we’d have to try and get up with my dad,” he said, noting that such late-night viewings were a reward for good behavior. Those early experiences watching Champions League fixtures have shaped Devlin’s aspirations, fueling his desire to replicate those moments on the pitch.
Having previously played for Hearts in Europe, Devlin acknowledges the heightened expectations at Rangers. “To come to Rangers, there’s even more expectation to really go and do well in these kinds of competitions,” he said. “To have that as a player, you’re in a privileged position.”
Known for his tenacious playing style and combative tackling, Devlin emphasized that he will maintain his natural approach despite the potential differences in officiating standards across European competitions. “I don’t think I can change the way I play. I’ve played in Europe, so I understand the different ways things can go. But I know what I bring on the pitch and I’ll be no different,” he said. Devlin reaffirmed his commitment to giving his all in the upcoming fixture.
Among his Rangers teammates, Devlin highlighted the presence of Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin, with whom he has frequently competed in previous matches. He spoke positively of Raskin’s qualities and expressed hope for the opportunity to collaborate on the field during the qualifier.
Since joining Rangers, Devlin has expressed satisfaction with his experience at the club, indicating a strong integration into the squad. As the team prepares to face Jagiellonia Bialystok, Devlin’s blend of experience and determination is set to play an important role in Rangers’ European campaign.
