Cape Verde’s goalkeeper Vozinha will have the support of his family during the team’s upcoming match against Uruguay, following a standout performance that drew international attention in their recent World Cup game.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper earned the player of the match title after Cape Verde held reigning champions Spain to a 0-0 draw on Monday. His performance not only helped secure a surprising result, but also sparked a surge of social media recognition and admiration worldwide.
Among those present to cheer him on at the World Cup in the United States are his father, Jose Pedro Dias, and brother, Delmiro Evora Nascimento. Vozinha’s mother, who encountered visa issues earlier, is also expected to join the family group soon.
“They always support me in everything I do, so having my mother here is something special. My father is here too, and my brother as well, so I’m very happy,” Vozinha said, expressing his appreciation for the presence of his family.
Meanwhile, Jose Pedro Dias spoke about the pride the family and the nation are feeling. “I feel immense pride. All Cape Verdeans right now feel proud to be Cape Verdean and of Cape Verde’s performance. It’s something we could never have imagined would be possible,” he said.
Cape Verde’s draw with Spain marked a significant milestone for the small island nation, as they continue their efforts in the World Cup group stages. The support from Vozinha’s family underscores the personal and national significance of the team’s unexpected achievements on the global stage.
