A 60-year-old man from Chino Hills, California, was allegedly targeted in a carefully planned attack that involved a deliberate power outage to lure him outside before he was shot, kidnapped, and ultimately executed in front of law enforcement officers. The victim has been identified as Shukur Aikebaer.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday when 67-year-old Zhengfeng Bo, residing in Irvine, and his alleged accomplice, 66-year-old Jianquan Bo, reportedly cut the power to Aikebaer’s home. The suspects are believed to have known Aikebaer through a previous work connection. Surveillance footage shows a silver sedan slowly entering the quiet neighborhood and pulling into Aikebaer’s driveway just before the attack.
When Aikebaer went outside to inspect the electrical box following the outage, authorities say Zhengfeng Bo and Jianquan Bo shot and abducted him, placing him in the trunk of their vehicle. A 911 call was made reporting gunshots and a person screaming as the suspects fled the scene.
Law enforcement located the suspects’ vehicle a few miles from the crime scene and attempted to stop them. A short chase ensued before the vehicle came to a halt. Surveillance footage from the stop showed Jianquan Bo exiting the car with his hands raised and surrendering to deputies. Zhengfeng Bo behaved erratically, repeatedly getting in and out of the driver’s seat and opening and closing doors before stepping out with his hands up. He then returned to the car, approached the trunk, and fired a shot at Aikebaer, who was confined inside.
In response, deputies fired multiple rounds, killing Zhengfeng Bo at the scene. Aikebaer was also pronounced dead. Jianquan Bo was taken into custody without injury and was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where he faces charges of murder and kidnapping. He is being held without bail.
The following day, investigators executed a search warrant at the Irvine residence shared by the two suspects, approximately 31 miles from the attack site. The Irvine Police Department confirmed the operation and noted that public safety resources were deployed during the investigation. Evidence was reportedly recovered from the home, and officials stated that the investigation is ongoing.
