Lindsay Clancy has been receiving ongoing psychiatric care at Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts since January 2023, following a mistrial in connection with the deaths of her children and an attempted suicide. Her treatment has imposed significant costs on Massachusetts taxpayers, estimated to be at least $620,500 annually and potentially reaching several million dollars over time.

Clancy, who has been a patient at the state-run hospital north of Boston for more than three and a half years, requires extensive medical attention due to a bipolar disorder diagnosis and other psychological issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, she remains paralyzed and wheelchair-bound as a result of injuries sustained in her suicide attempt.

Tewksbury Hospital typically charges the state government a minimum of $1,700 per day for residents classified as psychiatric patients. However, Clancy's condition could qualify her as a "chronic patient," which carries a higher daily charge of $1,850, equating to approximately $675,250 annually based on Massachusetts Department of Public Health data.

Her care expenses may be even greater, as Clancy has been under continuous suicide watch since the incident, necessitating a dedicated attendant around the clock. This heightened level of supervision adds to the facility’s overall costs, though precise figures for her total care expenses have not been disclosed.
