Carenza, 32, head of campaigns at Women for Refugee Women, and Jacob, 31, a philanthropy officer at Freedom from Torture, were wed on April 18, 2026, at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham, southeast London. Their relationship, which began in 2017 while both worked at Freedom from Torture, was marked by shared values and a mutual commitment to social justice.

The couple met through their work supporting survivors of torture, bonding initially over a shared interest in the Eurovision Song Contest. Their connection deepened over time, with a memorable first date that lasted 12 hours, covering sites such as Broadway Market in Hackney and London Fields. Despite attempts to keep their relationship discreet at work, moments like holding hands in public drew attention, including from their chief executive.

Carenza, originally from Nottingham, holds degrees in politics, psychology, sociology, and international relations from the University of Liverpool. She was living in Stepney Green when the couple began dating. Jacob, an Arsenal supporter who studied sport management at the University of Kent, lived with his family in Bromley.

Throughout their relationship, Carenza and Jacob maintained a strong bond over shared political and moral beliefs. During the COVID-19 lockdown, they adapted their routines to stay connected, watching television shows together remotely and cooking similar meals. After renting in Peckham, they purchased a flat in southeast London in 2023.

Initially ambivalent about marriage, Carenza’s views shifted after attending friends’ weddings. Jacob, who had also come to accept the possibility of remaining unmarried, was slowly persuaded by her change of heart. Jacob planned a meaningful proposal involving a custom-designed ring shaped like a poppy, his partner’s maternal grandmother’s favorite flower, incorporating both their birthstones. Although the day was marked by a medical emergency when Carenza suffered a burst ovary, Jacob proposed quietly at home later that evening.

The wedding ceremony featured 75 guests and was noted for its relaxed atmosphere. Carenza entered to Aretha Franklin’s “Oh Me Oh My (I’m a Fool For You Baby)” with her mother, and the couple exited to Eurythmics’ “There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart).” The following reception took place nearby at Amp Studios under railway arches, where the couple enjoyed a vegetarian meal and danced to Lady Gaga’s “Stupid Love.” The event included two female DJs from the SpinSisters collective, with Jacob remaining on the dancefloor throughout.

The celebrations continued the next day with a gathering of 40 guests for a Sunday roast at The Old Nun’s Head pub in Nunhead. Following their wedding, Carenza and Jacob spent a quiet minimoon in Santorini and plan an extended trip to Japan and South Korea later in the year.
