Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open due to a right wrist injury. The 22-year-old announced his decision following a medical evaluation conducted on his wrist on Wednesday.

Alcaraz had secured a straight-sets victory in the first round against qualifier Otto Virtanen on Tuesday and was set to face Tomas Machac in the next round. However, concerns over the condition of his wrist prompted him to pull out of the tournament to prevent further injury.

The Barcelona Open organizers confirmed the withdrawal via their official Instagram account, expressing wishes for Alcaraz’s swift recovery and anticipating his return to competition. The decision underscores the ongoing challenges athletes face in balancing performance with physical health. The tournament will proceed without the young Spanish star, adjusting the draw accordingly.
