Carrie Johnson, wife of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has expressed concern that the number of victims of convicted black cab rapist John Worboys could exceed 1,000. Johnson, 38, narrowly escaped an assault by Worboys herself when she was 19 and has played a role in bringing him to justice.
Worboys, 68, was sentenced in 2009 for 19 sexual offences against 12 women committed in London between 2000 and 2009. In 2019, he received two additional life sentences for four further attacks. Despite his convictions, Worboys was recently denied parole.
Speaking to ITV, Johnson highlighted that Worboys, who worked as a taxi driver, was potentially prowling nightly, which could mean a much larger number of victims than those officially identified. She indicated that many women might not realize they were drugged during their encounters with him and encouraged those who suspect they were assaulted to come forward.
Several women have reportedly contacted Johnson privately, fearing they may have been attacked by Worboys. She urged greater openness, emphasizing the importance of reporting such crimes to aid ongoing investigations and support victim recovery.
The case remains a significant example of sexual violence involving a serial predator operating under the guise of a trusted professional, prompting calls for increased vigilance and support mechanisms for survivors.
