Iranian karate athlete Atousa Golshadnezhad has been named one of the flag bearers for Iran’s delegation at the 2026 Asian Games, set to take place in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 3. Golshadnezhad described the role as a significant honor and expressed her ambition to lead the delegation during the opening ceremony and secure a gold medal for her country.

Golshadnezhad rose to prominence last year by winning Iran’s first-ever medal for women at the World Karate Championships. She expressed gratitude toward the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee for selecting her as the flag bearer, emphasizing her determination not only to represent Iran with pride but also to achieve top results and bring joy to the Iranian public.

Currently preparing intensively, Golshadnezhad and the national women's karate team have been conducting training camps under the guidance of head coach Pegah Zangeneh. She conveyed confidence in their progress, noting that the team is in good shape and expects to reach its peak performance by the time of the Games.

The reigning Asian champion also highlighted her strategic approach to the upcoming competition, mentioning that she has extensively studied her opponents’ fighting styles and strengths. Although Golshadnezhad missed the 2024 Asian Karate Championships due to injury, she has since fully recovered under medical supervision and returned to full fitness. The experience of rehabilitation has reportedly increased her motivation to compete at the highest level.

Looking ahead, the team is planning to participate in a warm-up tournament in Turkey next month, though final participation will depend on a decision from the Iranian Karate Federation. Golshadnezhad affirmed that training is proceeding smoothly and according to plan as the team prepares for the continental event.
