Carshalton extended their unbeaten league run to five matches with a 2-0 victory over Brentwood, thanks to a brace from Nathan Young-Coombes. The match, played on Saturday at Carshalton’s home ground, saw the hosts dominate possession despite challenging conditions and an untidy start.
The game began with a sudden downpour and an early incident in which Carshalton teammates Denzel Akyeampong and Robert Howard clashed heads, forcing both to leave the field temporarily. Despite the disruption, Carshalton maintained control but found it difficult to create clear-cut chances in the attacking third. Their first significant opportunity arrived in the 22nd minute when former Dorking Wanderers midfielder Jack Jebb narrowly missed converting a free kick.
Brentwood mounted occasional threats, including a notable moment when Bradley Sach’s flick released Jesse Olukuko whose cross just evaded Charlee Adams. Carshalton broke the deadlock just before halftime when Brentwood defender Luke Read was penalized for handball inside the penalty area. Young-Coombes stepped up to convert the spot kick, marking his second league goal this season and rewarding his side’s control of the match.
The second half saw Carshalton pressing further. In the 55th minute, Brentwood's situation worsened after Max Hudson was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Tyrese Osbourne. Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, Carshalton increased their lead in the 62nd minute when Young-Coombes finished with precision for his second goal of the game.
The Robins continued to push for a third, with Tope Fadahunsi’s attempt saved by Brentwood goalkeeper Aiden Prall. Later in the match, Prall produced another key save denying Prince Kandolo, while a late effort featuring Osbourne narrowly missed the target.
Carshalton manager Steve Bates acknowledged the team’s efforts, stating the players worked hard for the victory and earned the deserved three points.
