Mexican authorities have arrested Ramon Angel, also known as "El R1," in connection with the assassination of Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan in the state of Michoacan. The arrest was announced on Thursday by Mexico’s Security Minister Omar Garcia via a message on the social media platform X.

Angel is believed to be the leader of "Los Rs," a criminal cell reportedly affiliated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico's most powerful and violent criminal organizations. According to officials, Angel is suspected of ordering the killing of Manzo, who had been openly critical of the government’s handling of crime and security issues in the region.

Carlos Manzo had gained attention for his vocal denunciations of what he described as inadequate governmental response to the escalating violence and presence of organized crime in Michoacan. His assassination has drawn renewed scrutiny to the challenges faced by local authorities in combating cartel-related violence.

The investigation into the mayor’s murder is ongoing, with authorities focusing on dismantling the operational networks of the CJNG and its affiliated cells in Michoacan and surrounding areas.
