Gateshead manager Lee Cattermole acknowledged the superiority of Yeovil Town following his team’s 3-0 defeat at Huish Park on Saturday. The Glovers secured an early lead through Stephen Walker’s strike in the second minute, setting the tone for the match.

Cattermole’s side, looking to build on their recent 2-0 victory over Woking, struggled to regain control throughout the game. Despite remaining competitive for much of the first half, Gateshead could not capitalize on several opportunities created by Yeovil. Late goals from Luke McCormick, who scored twice in the final ten minutes, sealed the win for the home side.

Speaking after the match, Cattermole described the start as “terrible” and conceded that Yeovil “were the better team on the day.” He highlighted his side’s difficulties in maintaining possession and controlling the game, acknowledging that the team did not perform to their usual standards. “They move the ball very well,” he said, adding that Gateshead’s turnover issues contributed to their defeat.

Cattermole also expressed disappointment in failing to replicate the momentum gained from last weekend’s win, stating, “We felt the highs of a win like we did last week, we aren’t getting that again and it’s going to be a long journey home.” Despite the setback, he praised the commitment of Gateshead’s supporters, who traveled a significant distance to attend the match. “The fans are incredible, they have supported the club for a long time and I am sure that will carry on,” he said.

Following Saturday’s defeat, Gateshead will have a midweek break before hosting Sutton United on Friday evening. They will then travel to Harrogate Town on Bank Holiday Monday as they seek to recover points in the early stages of the campaign.
