Nathan Cayless has been appointed as the new head coach of Hull Kingston Rovers, signing a three-year deal set to commence with the 2027 season. The 48-year-old former New Zealand international takes over following the departure of Willie Peters, who announced in March that he would step down at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Cayless brings extensive experience from his playing and coaching career, having held various roles within the National Rugby League (NRL) and at the international level. His appointment marks a new chapter for Hull KR as they prepare to build on their recent successes under Peters, who led the team to a quadruple-winning season.
In his first public comments since his appointment, Cayless expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity and outlined his vision for the club. He emphasized a commitment to fostering a cohesive team environment focused on continuous improvement and disciplined execution of game fundamentals.
“Hull KR is the right coaching opportunity for me and I am grateful,” Cayless said. “Supporters can expect to see a group of players that continually put the team first, chase constant improvement and execute the fundamentals of the game at the highest of standards consistently.”
The club’s leadership will be looking to Cayless to sustain and build upon the momentum established during Peters’ tenure, aiming to maintain Hull KR’s competitive standing in the upcoming seasons. The transition arrives ahead of the new season, giving Cayless time to integrate with the squad and implement his coaching philosophy.
