The centennial of Ernest Hemingway’s novel "The Sun Also Rises" was commemorated Thursday at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, bringing together members of the Hemingway family, authors, and actors to honor the enduring impact of the work.

Brendan Hemingway, Angela Hemingway Charles, and Patrick Hemingway Adams, all descendants of the author, participated in a panel discussion alongside writers Jay McInerney and Thomas Beller. The conversation focused on the novel’s significance and Hemingway’s contribution to American literature.

Actors Sarah Pidgeon, Maya Hawke, Richard Schiff, Dominic Sessa, Will Harrison, Titus Welliver, and Joy Sunday performed selected readings from the novel, bringing its characters and scenes to life for attendees.

Angela Hemingway Charles, who married Ernest Hemingway’s son Jack in 1989 and established Hemingway Ltd., emphasized the dedication required to preserve the author’s literary legacy. She described managing the estate as a demanding, ongoing effort to maintain and protect Hemingway’s body of work.

The event celebrated not only the publication milestone of "The Sun Also Rises," which first appeared in 1926, but also the continued relevance of Hemingway’s writing nearly a century later.
