Kuwait City hosted a commemorative event on October 10 marking the 53rd anniversary of Egypt’s October 6 Victory, highlighting the enduring ties between Egypt and Kuwait rooted in shared history and military solidarity. The gathering brought together prominent figures across political, military, diplomatic, and economic sectors, including members of the Al-Sabah family, diplomatic representatives, military attachés, business leaders, and public personalities.
Organized under the auspices of Egyptian Defense Attaché Colonel Mohamed Abdul-Wahed Abdul-Jawad, the ceremony emphasized the milestone's significance not only for Egypt’s national identity but also for the broader Arab world. The October Victory, referring to Egypt’s military success during the 1973 war against Israel, serves as an emblem of determination and sacrifice, with Kuwaiti and Egyptian forces having fought side by side during the conflict.
Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohamed Gaber Abul-Wafa, together with Colonel Abdul-Jawad, extended a warm welcome to attendees, affirming the celebration as a testament to Kuwait’s deep respect for Egypt and its armed forces. Abdul-Jawad underlined the event’s importance as a reflection of Egypt’s resilience, the strategic planning of its military, and the sacrifices made to reclaim national sovereignty. He paid tribute to the late President Anwar Sadat, who led the decision to cross the Suez Canal, and honored the martyrs who gave their lives in defense of Egypt.
Abdul-Jawad also highlighted Kuwait’s role, recalling the participation of Kuwaiti fighters who fought alongside Egyptian forces. He described their joint efforts as a vivid symbol of Arab brotherhood that transcended political support to active involvement on the battlefield. “This powerful image depicted the true meaning of Arab brotherhood,” he said, “with Kuwaiti and Egyptian blood mingling on the battlefield.” He expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s ongoing cooperation and stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations.
Representing Kuwait, Kuwaiti Air Force Commander Major General Pilot Fahad Falah Al-Khareenj congratulated Egypt on the anniversary, characterizing the October 6 Victory as a defining moment in the history of both Egypt and the Arab world. He emphasized the longstanding brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries and noted the central role of military collaboration, citing the ‘Yarmouk’ joint air exercise as a symbol of their enduring partnership. The exercise pays homage to the historic Kuwaiti Yarmouk Brigade, which fought alongside Egyptian forces during the war.
Al-Khareenj underscored that the Yarmouk exercise goes beyond training, representing the unity and mutual support that continue to define Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations. He described these ties as a model for Arab cooperation, grounded in solidarity and shared sacrifice.
The event reaffirmed that the commemoration of the October Victory extends beyond a military milestone, reflecting a collective history of Arab solidarity and sacrifice. It also highlighted the significant Egyptian community in Kuwait and the wide-ranging cooperation between the two countries in political, diplomatic, military, and economic spheres. The celebration conveyed a message of loyalty to a shared history and underlined the ongoing legacy of friendship and partnership forged on the battlefield, which remains vital to Egypt-Kuwait relations today.
