A California-based CEO was arrested and charged in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire scheme targeting a Mexican businessman over an unpaid debt. The individual, identified as Marcos Arturo Kleiman Tron-Ilan, 40, a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident, was initially under federal investigation for money laundering tied to his currency exchange company, Money-Flip LLC, located in San Diego.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California stated that federal authorities began probing Kleiman for allegedly using his business to circumvent federal financial reporting requirements and to funnel proceeds derived from drug trafficking activities. As part of the investigation, undercover agents with the Department of Homeland Security approached Kleiman in February to inquire whether he could convert drug sale proceeds into cryptocurrency.

According to prosecutors, Kleiman appeared unfazed by the inquiry, asking detailed questions about whether the funds were clean or illicit. He subsequently converted and transferred approximately $750,000 into a digital wallet controlled by an undercover agent.

The investigation took a further turn when Kleiman reportedly requested assistance to collect a debt from a Mexican businessman and offered to arrange the businessman’s murder. Prosecutors said Kleiman sought $40,000 for the hit, including two upfront deposits of $5,000 each. The plot was uncovered when federal authorities intercepted communications related to the murder-for-hire proposal.

Kleiman faces charges including conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. The case highlights ongoing federal efforts to dismantle cross-border criminal enterprises that engage in financial crimes and violent activities. Legal proceedings are underway as authorities continue to examine the full extent of Kleiman’s alleged involvement in illicit operations.
