Cesc Fabregas has dismissed speculation linking him to the managerial position at Manchester United, instead expressing his support for current manager Michael Carrick ahead of their Champions League meeting on Tuesday. Fabregas, who is head coach of Italian club Como, described the reports as “disrespectful” and emphasized his respect for Carrick’s leadership.

Manchester United, facing injury challenges within their squad, are set to travel to Como for a demanding fixture. Como, appearing in the Champions League for the first time, have impressed in the group stage, securing a 4-1 home victory over RB Leipzig and a narrow 3-2 loss to Feyenoord.

Fabregas declined to comment on reports suggesting he could replace Carrick at Old Trafford, stating the question lacked respect for the Manchester United manager. “I don’t think that shows enough respect to a great footballer and manager like Michael Carrick,” he said.

Despite the rumored managerial changes, Fabregas acknowledged Manchester United’s historic stature and the quality within their squad. He highlighted his familiarity with the club, including his professional relationship with United assistant Steve Holland, a former Chelsea colleague. Fabregas also praised Carrick’s efforts last season, noting that he helped restore United to the Champions League for the first time in several years.

“It’s an honour to host them for the first time in our history,” Fabregas added, reflecting on Como’s debut in Europe’s top club competition.

Regarding Como’s tactical approach against United, Fabregas made light of his team’s defensive strategy, joking that they would “park the bus” to counter United’s counter-attacking strength. He clarified, however, that they intend to play their natural game despite the challenging match-up.

The encounter marks a significant test for both clubs, with Carrick’s side under pressure to deliver positive results amid ongoing injury concerns, while Fabregas’ Como look to continue their promising start on the European stage.
