Soul legend Chaka Khan has reflected on her enduring connection with the late Prince, marking a decade since his passing. The two artists collaborated closely over the years, notably for Khan’s hit cover of Prince’s song "I Feel For You." Despite Prince’s death, Khan says she continues to maintain a spiritual bond with him.

“I talk to him all the time,” Khan said, referencing a ritual that involves burning a candle and speaking to a painting of Prince. She recalled Prince as “a man of few words” and “a doer,” emphasizing the depth of their friendship. Khan also revealed she owns half of an unfinished album they recorded together, which she plans to include in an upcoming box set, though the release date remains unconfirmed.

Khan spoke openly about their shared belief in life beyond the physical world, a spirituality that brings her comfort rather than sorrow. “It’s not a thing to cry about, to go crazy over, because you are constantly going upward and onward,” she explained. She expressed faith in experiences described by near-death survivors and an interconnectedness with nature, suggesting that tuning into silence allows access to a “whole field” related to the afterlife.

At 73 years old, Khan is already considering her legacy and how she wishes to be remembered by her great-grandchildren, Kaiiya and Mackenzie. She shared a personal plan to be buried beneath a tree, a site where her descendants can leave letters, symbolically maintaining a connection with her presence.

Her latest album, "Chakzilla," includes collaborations with artists such as Sia and Snoop Dogg. Khan described music as her essential calling, stating that singing is not only a form of self-expression but a vital outlet. “I have to do this or I’d kill myself. I’d be dead by now if I wasn’t singing,” she said, highlighting the therapeutic power of melody and song in her life.
