The North East England Chamber of Commerce has issued a warning to its members regarding fraudulent emails purporting to be from the organisation. The Chamber described the messages as attempts to cause reputational harm and stressed that its systems have not been breached.

According to a statement from the Chamber, a limited number of individuals have received the counterfeit emails. The organisation emphasized that there has been no compromise of its IT infrastructure or member data. Chief Executive Officer John McCabe reassured members, saying the Chamber’s systems remain robust and there is no evidence that personal information has been accessed improperly.

The Chamber confirmed it is cooperating with relevant authorities and legal advisers to address the situation. McCabe encouraged members to remain cautious and to report any suspicious communications claiming to originate from the Chamber. He advised sending such reports to Data@necc.co.uk with the subject line “REF: DP0726.”

The organisation’s actions reflect a broader concern within the business community regarding phishing and other forms of cyber fraud intended to damage reputations or gain unauthorised access to information. The Chamber’s prompt alert seeks to mitigate potential risks for its members and protect the integrity of its operations.
