Authorities in Cumilla are preparing to file the charge sheet in the murder case of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim within the next two to three days, according to Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman. The announcement was made during a briefing with journalists on Saturday evening.

Oprotim, the son of Cumilla University lecturer Dr. Nahida Begum, went missing in mid-September and was found deceased in a remote area near Lalmai Hills on September 18. The case drew widespread attention due to the victim’s young age and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Following Oprotim’s disappearance, police reviewed CCTV footage that showed him accompanied by 19-year-old Saiful Islam Tuhin. This led to Tuhin’s arrest and subsequent questioning. According to officials, Tuhin admitted to luring Oprotim to the remote location under the guise of taking photographs and videos with his iPhone. He then allegedly killed Oprotim to seize the phone.

Based on Tuhin’s confession, authorities apprehended two additional suspects, both minors aged 15. The phone allegedly used in the crime was recovered as part of the investigation. All three suspects have reportedly provided confessional statements before a magistrate in accordance with Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Police are finalizing the charge sheet, which will formally outline the accusations against the three individuals. The forthcoming charges are expected to include murder and related offenses connected to the robbery and concealment of evidence. Further details of the prosecution’s case will likely emerge once the charge sheet is submitted.
