Humzah “The Raging Bull” Khalid, a former undefeated boxing champion, is expected to remain a paraplegic following a shooting incident in Sydney’s west, a court was told Monday. Khalid, 26, still has a bullet lodged near his spine after being ambushed by gunmen while driving along Campbell Hill Road in Chester Hill on April 22. Despite multiple surgeries, his lawyer, David Carroll, indicated that Khalid will likely spend the rest of his life confined to a wheelchair.
Khalid was arrested earlier in the week and charged with multiple offences related to a series of underworld kidnappings. Police allege his involvement in four separate kidnapping incidents occurring between June 2025 and April 2026, which are being investigated under the name Strike Force Hazelvale.
Authorities claim Khalid was part of the kidnapping of a 40-year-old man taken at gunpoint from a residence in Ryde on June 20, 2025. The victim was reportedly held for ransom before being released later that day at Hunters Hill. In addition, police allege Khalid conspired to kidnap another man in Ryde in August 2025, was involved in the abduction of a man in Narwee in October 2025, and participated in a conspiracy to kidnap a man in Condell Park in May 2026.
He faces 11 charges, including two counts of kidnapping in company. During court proceedings, his lawyer emphasized Khalid’s “extreme and pressing” medical needs and expressed uncertainty over the availability of necessary ongoing treatment while in custody. Despite these concerns, the court refused Khalid’s application for bail, and he remains in custody pending further legal action.
