King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to undertake a four-day state visit to the United States from April 27, during which the monarch is expected to address key challenges affecting British-American relations. The itinerary, announced by Buckingham Palace, includes stops in Washington, New York, and Virginia, followed by a solo trip to Bermuda by the King.

The visit will begin in the U.S. capital with a private tea hosted by former President Donald Trump and the First Lady, Melania Trump. This will be followed by a garden party and a formal ceremony at the White House, where the King and Trump will hold a bilateral meeting. Separately, Queen Camilla is set to meet with the former First Lady.

A significant highlight of the visit will be King Charles’ address to a joint session of the United States Congress. Buckingham Palace characterized the speech as a pivotal moment, during which the King will acknowledge the challenges confronting both nations. This event marks only the second occasion a British monarch has addressed Congress, the first being Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.

In Washington, the royal couple will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony before traveling to New York for a commemoration of the September 11 attacks, marking the 25th anniversary of the tragedy later this year.

The timing of the visit is notable, as bilateral relations between the UK and the US have experienced tensions in recent months. Former President Trump has publicly criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for what he described as the UK’s withdrawal of support for the U.S. in its conflict with Iran. Despite this, Trump has maintained a cordial relationship with King Charles.

In addition to diplomatic engagements, the King will meet with business leaders to foster economic cooperation and promote growth between the two countries.

The official schedule underscores an effort to strengthen the longstanding alliance amid evolving global and political dynamics.
