Brandon Miller delivered a career-high 39 points to lead the Charlotte Hornets to a 110-103 victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday night in Charlotte. The Hornets improved to 3-1 to start their season despite key injuries sidelining several important players.
Charlotte has yet to field starters Coby White (left calf), Kon Knueppel (left hamstring), and top reserve Grant Williams (right hamstring) this season. Despite their absences, the Hornets have managed to maintain strong performances, bolstered by Naz Reid’s double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Wizards, who fell to 2-2, were aiming for their first 3-1 start since the 2022-23 season. Washington made a late push by hitting five three-pointers in the final minutes, closing the gap to 103-100 with just over a minute remaining. However, Charlotte held on to secure the win.
Washington’s lineup faced its own injury challenges. Forward Justin Champagnie exited early due to a right foot injury sustained in the first quarter and did not return. Additionally, AJ Dybantsa, who has yet to make his season debut, missed the game due to a sprained left ankle.
Leading the Wizards were Anthony Davis with 29 points and 10 rebounds, Trae Young who posted 22 points and 10 assists, and Kyshawn George contributing 20 points. Despite their efforts, Washington was unable to overcome the Hornets’ balanced attack.
The Wizards are scheduled to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in what will be another opportunity to solidify their early-season standing. Meanwhile, the Hornets continue to navigate their injury challenges while maintaining a strong start to the campaign.
