The new season of the BBC’s reality series *Celebrity Traitors* will return this October, featuring a line-up of 21 well-known personalities competing at a castle in the Scottish Highlands. The game challenges contestants, mostly designated as “faithfuls,” to identify hidden “traitors” among them, who eliminate players during the course of the show. The winner will receive up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.
The latest trailer, set in the Chapel of St John the Baptist at Ardross Castle, shows the celebrities seated in the pews, including figures such as Richard E Grant, Ross Kemp, Amol Rajan, James Blunt, Michael Sheen, comedian Miranda Hart, and former supermodel Jerry Hall. Host Claudia Winkleman opens with a somber tone, saying, “A moment of silence for the celebrities gathered today. Thoughts and prayers.” She is seen standing before floral lettering that spells “RIP VIP,” emphasizing the dramatic and theatrical nature of the series.
This season’s cast is notably star-studded, with a diverse mix of actors, musicians, comedians, presenters, and academics. Alongside those already mentioned, it includes Bella Ramsey, Leigh-Anne Pinnock from Little Mix, Maya Jama, comedian Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett, James Acaster, Joanne McNally, actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, Myha’la Herrold, mathematician and broadcaster Professor Hannah Fry, comedian Rob Beckett, musician and actor Sebastian Croft, and content creator King Kenny.
BBC’s director of entertainment, Ed Havard, described this series as one where “paranoia is off the scale,” suggesting heightened tension and emotional moments surpassing previous seasons. He noted that the level of intensity led to moments of real tears among the participants, though he reassured audiences that no actual harm comes to the contestants. “I really wanted to step in and say, ‘no one is actually being murdered,’” Havard said, highlighting the psychological stakes involved in the game rather than physical danger.
Host Claudia Winkleman, returning to the BBC following the cancellation of her chat show, characterized the season as “so full-on and theatrical, it’s incredible.” The trailer reflects this tone, with contestants appearing serious and introspective, starkly different from their usual public personas.
*Celebrity Traitors* builds on the suspense of discovery and deception, encouraging viewers to engage with both the competitive aspect of identifying the traitors and the emotional dynamics within the group. The upcoming series promises to deliver a blend of intrigue, drama, and unexpected moments as the celebrities navigate the challenges in the castle setting.
