Chelmsford City and Tonbridge Angels played out a 3-3 draw in a National League South encounter on Saturday, marking Chelmsford’s ninth draw of the season. The match, held at Chelmsford’s home ground, saw both teams exchange leads before Tonbridge secured a late equalizer.
Chelmsford took the lead when Lyle Taylor scored his first goal since Easter Monday. He seized on a back-pass from Tonbridge defender Hayden Bullas, rounding goalkeeper Nathan Harness to open the scoring. The opening half was otherwise subdued, with Tonbridge applying pressure but struggling to carve out clear opportunities.
Early in the second half, Chelmsford extended their advantage when Harry Barbrook found the net, marking his second consecutive league game with a goal. However, Tonbridge responded as manager Alan Dunne introduced several substitutions that changed the momentum.
Alfie Pavey, one of the substitutes, reduced the deficit with a headed goal. Tonbridge also had a goal disallowed from Pavey during this period. The visitors capitalized on Chelmsford’s apparent unease when Jephte Tanga controlled a high ball and finished left-footed past substitute goalkeeper Alfie Marriott, leveling the score.
Chelmsford regained the lead when Leo Sery managed to prod the ball under Harness, giving the Clarets hope of securing victory. Nonetheless, Tonbridge struck again late in the game when another substitute, Jordon Thompson, volleyed home from a corner to draw the match 3-3.
The final stages were intense and end-to-end, with neither side able to find a decisive winner. The result leaves Chelmsford City with a growing number of draws this season while Tonbridge secured a valuable away point as they return to Kent.
