Chelmsford City ended their sequence of draws with a commanding 5-0 victory over Chesham United in a National League South fixture on Saturday. The match, held at Chelmsford’s home ground, was decisively settled in the first half, with the visitors scoring all five goals before halftime.

The scoring began within the opening minute when Rhys Browne sent in a cross that squeezed past the near post to open the scoring. Shortly after, an own goal put Chelmsford further ahead as Alex Lafleur inadvertently turned a Harry Barbrook cross into his own net in the 14th minute. Jack Bridge extended the lead to 3-0 three minutes later, skillfully turning in the box before firing a shot home.

Chelmsford continued their aggressive play, capitalizing on a defensive error in the 21st minute when Chesham goalkeeper Ben Goode rushed out of his area to clear the ball. Chelmsford’s Adam May picked up possession and scored into an undefended goal, making it 4-0. The visitors regrouped after this spell but conceded a fifth goal before the break when Barbrook maneuvered and shot past Goode to cap the dominant half.

The second half saw a more relaxed tempo, with Chelmsford in control and the result no longer in doubt. Substitute Lyle Taylor came close to adding a sixth goal with a long-range volley that narrowly missed the target. However, Chelmsford’s Ashley Clarke received a straight red card for a stamp on Chesham’s Matt Lench after just seven minutes on the field, reducing Chelmsford to ten men.

In the closing stages of the match, Chesham’s Will St Clair-Burton assisted Lench with a backheel pass, but Lench’s shot went just wide of the goal. Despite this chance, Chesham was unable to mount any significant comeback against a dominant Chelmsford side.

The win decisively ends Chelmsford City’s run of consecutive draws and marks a strong statement of intent as they continue their campaign in the National League South.
