Chelsea reclaimed the top position in the Women’s Super League (WSL) following a dominant 6-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at The Valley. The Blues moved ahead of Manchester City on goal difference after City had briefly taken the lead earlier on the same day with a 2-1 win against London City Lionesses.

Chelsea’s commanding performance featured four goals within the first 19 minutes, including a brace by Melvine Malard, establishing a strong foundation for the rout. Both Chelsea and Manchester City remain level on 22 points after eight matches, with Chelsea holding an 11-goal advantage over their title rivals. The Lionesses sit six points behind in third place.

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor praised her team's intensity and consistent attacking approach throughout the game. “We want to come into every game and play from minute one to the end. We played with a lot of intensity and deserved to score until the end,” Bompastor said.

Manchester City’s narrow win was secured by a late goal from Lauren Hemp in the 74th minute. This came shortly after Jana Fernandez equalized for City following Khadija Shaw’s opening goal for the defending champions.

In other WSL action, Arsenal drew 1-1 with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. Villa took the lead through Chasity Grant’s goal in the 25th minute, which was the visitors’ only shot on target during the match. Arsenal’s England international Alessia Russo salvaged a late point, heading in a cross from substitute Stina Blackstenius five minutes from time to secure the draw.

Tottenham’s Drew Spence marked a milestone in the league’s history by becoming the WSL’s all-time appearance record holder. Spence made her 217th appearance in Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over Birmingham City, surpassing the previous record held by former Chelsea captain Millie Bright. The 34-year-old midfielder expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “I’ve been around for a while! I’m incredibly proud to be able to do that.”
