Chelsea are close to securing the signing of French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace in a deal reportedly approaching £60 million. The 26-year-old centre-back has been a key figure for Palace since his arrival from Wolfsburg in August 2024, where he initially joined for a fee of up to £17 million. Lacroix has made 98 appearances for the Eagles and holds three years remaining on his current contract.
The move is part of Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso’s strategy to strengthen the squad with players experienced in the Premier League, addressing the club’s defensive concerns following last season’s challenges. Lacroix also has international experience, having made three appearances for France during their recent World Cup campaign in North America.
As part of the arrangement, Crystal Palace are in advanced talks to acquire Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi on a season-long loan. The 28-year-old defender spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at West Ham United. While West Ham expressed interest in extending that loan, Disasi reportedly declined the move due to their relegation and the prospect of playing in the Championship.
The potential loan deal to Crystal Palace offers Disasi an opportunity to remain in the Premier League, while Chelsea consolidate their defensive options with the addition of Lacroix. Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing but are believed to be progressing smoothly ahead of the start of the new season.
