Cheshunt secured a late victory against Leatherhead with a stoppage-time goal from Jakai Bascoe-Fisher. The winning strike came after Leatherhead’s Charlie Kennett had equalised following an earlier opener by Cheshunt’s Tommy Wood.
The match featured strong performances from both sides in a tightly contested encounter. Early in the first half, Leatherhead goalkeeper Sonny Wheeler made a key save when he smothered a shot from Cheshunt’s Obi Onyeagwara under pressure from Sam Granville. Shortly before halftime, Cheshunt goalkeeper R’avan Constable was tested by a long-range effort from Leatherhead’s Harry Murphy.
In the early stages of the second half, Leatherhead looked to capitalize on promising chances. Midfielder Charlie Kennett narrowly missed a shot just over the crossbar following a well-placed delivery from Anas Igozouln. However, Igozouln himself passed up a good opportunity on 57 minutes, hesitating and allowing Constable to secure the ball.
Cheshunt broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Tommy Wood converted with a composed finish. The lead was short-lived as Leatherhead’s Kennett earned an equaliser on 75 minutes after a determined attacking move.
In the closing stages, Leatherhead came close to taking the lead with chances from substitutes Nathan Hogan, Marcel Barrington, and Matt Everitt, but each opportunity either went wide or over the bar. Ultimately, Bascoe-Fisher produced a decisive moment in stoppage time as he capitalized on defensive hesitation to slot home the winner, securing a 2-1 victory for the home side.
