The bodies of two kayakers from the Chicago area were recovered off Washington Island in Door County, Wisconsin, authorities confirmed Monday. David Thalman, 20, of Dundee, and Francesca Warick, 20, of South Elgin, had been reported missing near the island before rescue efforts gave way to recovery operations on Sunday.

According to the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Thalman’s body was found at approximately 10:55 a.m. Monday, followed shortly by the discovery of Warick’s body. Officials indicated that drowning is believed to be the primary cause of death, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Washington Island, located in Lake Michigan, is a well-known destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, including kayakers who frequent the area’s waters during the summer months. The sheriff’s office has not released further details on the circumstances that led to the incident.
