Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was arrested on Sunday evening in connection with a shooting incident in Ashburn, Virginia, that left a woman with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who has been reported by multiple outlets to be Mia Bieniemy, wife of Eric Bieniemy and mother of their two adult sons, was hospitalized in stable condition following the incident.

Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting shortly after 7:30 p.m. at a residence on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive. According to the sheriff’s office, several people were inside the home at the time, but no one else was injured. Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He is currently held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, and online court records indicate he had an arraignment hearing scheduled for Monday, with a preliminary hearing set for August 31. He is being represented by a public defender, and an attorney for him was not immediately available for comment.

Eric Bieniemy, who had a lengthy NFL playing career before beginning his coaching career, is currently in his second tenure with the Chiefs as offensive coordinator. His coaching path has also included stints with the Washington Commanders, UCLA, and the Chicago Bears. On the day of the incident, he was at the Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, but did not attend the team’s practice on Monday following the event.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation at a news conference on Monday, expressing sympathy for the Bieniemy family. “Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers are with them,” Reid said. He confirmed that Mia Bieniemy’s condition was stable and highlighted the close relationship he has with the Bieniemy family, having worked with Eric since 2013. Reid described Mia Bieniemy as “a saint” and “one of God’s good blessings,” emphasizing her special role in their lives.

While the sheriff’s office did not publicly release the victim’s name, local reports and media sources identified her as Mia Bieniemy. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No further details about the motive or the progression of the incident have been disclosed at this time.
