The Kansas City Chiefs reaffirmed their confidence in kicker Harrison Butker despite recently adding veteran Justin Tucker to their practice squad. Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub clearly stated that Butker remains the team’s top option for the kicking role ahead of the upcoming season.
Tucker, a five-time All-Pro and widely regarded as one of the NFL's most accurate kickers, signed with the Chiefs practice squad after spending last season out of the league. He had served a 10-game suspension imposed for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The suspension sidelined him throughout much of the previous year.
Before his hiatus, Tucker spent 13 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, where he established himself as a franchise cornerstone. However, his tenure ended amid controversy when the Baltimore Banner reported in 2025 that 16 massage therapists at upscale spas had accused him of sexual misconduct. Tucker vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as “unequivocally false” and dismissing the reports as “tabloid fodder.”
Despite Tucker's addition, the Chiefs are maintaining their commitment to Butker, who performed as the team's leading kicker this past season. Toub emphasized that Butker is still their number one choice, signaling the team’s satisfaction with his consistency and performance.
The signing of Tucker provides Kansas City with added depth and competition at the kicker position, potentially offering insurance against injury or performance issues. However, the current roster configuration suggests Butker will continue to handle game-day kicking duties as the Chiefs prepare for the new NFL season.
