Muscat — The Working Group for the Review and Development of the Child Law, operating under the National Committee for Family Affairs, held its inaugural meeting to discuss the timeline and phases of its work. The session was chaired by Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Family Affairs and Community Development and a member of the National Committee for Family Affairs.

The meeting is part of broader national efforts to update and enhance legislation related to child protection in Oman. The group aims to align the country’s child law with evolving social conditions and legislative standards in order to strengthen the child rights framework.

Participants reviewed a range of legal provisions and evaluated multiple observations received on specific articles within the existing law. The process seeks to ensure that Omani legislation continues to adequately safeguard the rights and well-being of children in the changing social landscape.

The Working Group’s review and development initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining up-to-date child protection measures and is expected to proceed through further consultations and revisions in the coming months.
