Ashley Paul Griffith, a convicted child sex offender, has been charged with more than 200 new offences related to the alleged sexual abuse of 23 children at childcare centres in Sydney’s inner west. The alleged offences occurred between July 2014 and December 2017 and involved children aged between one and five years old.
Griffith, 48, is currently serving a life sentence in Queensland after pleading guilty in 2024 to 307 charges concerning the abuse of 69 girls at childcare facilities in Brisbane and Italy. He was transferred from Wolston Correctional Centre in Queensland to the custody of Corrective Services NSW at Tweed Heads on Wednesday to face the fresh allegations.
NSW Police formally charged Griffith with over 200 new offences, including 68 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10, 42 counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child, 69 counts of aggravated indecent assault, and 23 counts of producing child abuse material. The former childcare worker appeared before a bail court; however, his lawyer did not seek bail, and it was refused. No pleas have been entered in relation to the new charges, with Griffith scheduled to return to court on January 19.
The renewed investigation was conducted by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad and partner agencies and took nearly four years to complete. Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree, State Crime Commander, described the allegations as “deeply disturbing” and emphasized the detectives’ dedication to identifying victims and pursuing justice.
Authorities have highlighted the serious nature of the offences, which involve some of the most vulnerable members of the community, underscoring the ongoing efforts to hold offenders accountable and protect children from abuse.
