The Ministry of Defence in Qatar has expanded eligibility for its national service program to include children of Qatari mothers and non-Qatari residents born within the country. The announcement, made on Tuesday via the ministry’s official social media account, outlines new criteria for applicants seeking to join the programme.

To qualify, candidates must be at least 18 years old, born in Qatar, and possess a valid Qatar Residency Permit. Additional requirements specify that applicants must demonstrate good conduct and reputation, be medically fit, and successfully pass an admission interview. Individuals previously dismissed from service or convicted of crimes involving dishonesty or breach of trust are ineligible unless they have undergone rehabilitation.

The service period may last up to five years, with participants eligible for a monthly financial incentive of as much as QR7,000. Furthermore, those completing the programme will receive priority consideration for recruitment into the Qatar Armed Forces and preferential treatment when applying for Permanent Residency.

Applications are to be submitted electronically through the Ministry of Defence’s website, under the recruitment section. Prospective applicants must provide several documents, including a copy of their Qatar ID card, valid passport, and birth certificate for those born in Qatar. For children of Qatari mothers, additional documentation such as the mother’s passport and birth certificate must also be submitted.

This move represents a significant broadening of access to national service, previously limited to specific groups, and reflects Qatar’s evolving approach to integrating residents and nationals into its defense and civic programs.
