Colo Colo, Chile’s most prominent football club, has signed Josimar Dias, known as Vozinha, the goalkeeper who gained international attention during the recent World Cup. The 40-year-old Cape Verdean shot to prominence with a series of impressive saves against high-profile teams, including Spain, the eventual tournament winner, and Argentina, the defending champions.

The club confirmed the acquisition on July 25, announcing on social media that Vozinha will soon join the team. Aníbal Mosa, president of Blanco y Negro—the company responsible for managing Colo Colo—stated that the goalkeeper would arrive in Chile within days to complete medical examinations before being officially presented at Estadio Monumental, the club’s home stadium in Santiago.

Vozinha entered the tournament without an active club contract and significantly boosted his profile by leading Cape Verde to a competitive showing. The island nation advanced to the round of 32, narrowly falling to Lionel Messi’s Argentina 3-2 in extra time. His World Cup performance has led to a dramatic surge in his social media following, growing from under 50,000 to nearly 29 million followers.

Local reports indicate the contract with Colo Colo spans 18 months. The signing has generated excitement among Colo Colo fans as well as the broader Chilean football community, particularly in light of Chile’s national team missing qualification for a third consecutive World Cup this year.
