China expressed its readiness to strengthen communication and cooperation with India, aiming to resolve differences and advance bilateral relations, according to statements made during a high-level meeting in Beijing on Tuesday. The discussions took place as part of the 25th Round of Talks Between the Special Representatives on the Boundary Question, co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Wang, who also directs the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the border areas, noting that institutional exchanges and cooperation between the two countries are gradually resuming. He called for the boundary question to be addressed appropriately within the broader context of China-India relations, urging both sides to continue progress without stalling or backsliding.

Highlighting the need to foster a constructive narrative on boundary matters, Wang called on Beijing and New Delhi to prioritize dialogue, consultation, and mutual cooperation. These efforts aim to inject positive momentum into the overall development of the bilateral relationship.

During the talks, both parties conducted in-depth discussions on advancing boundary negotiations, enhancing border management, improving related mechanisms, and promoting cross-border collaboration. A joint statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry indicated that the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging the Special Representatives’ Talks to reach a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution to the longstanding boundary dispute.

Separately, Vice-President Han Zheng met with Ajit Doval on the same day, underscoring the need for China and India to approach their bilateral ties with a strategic and long-term outlook. Han urged both countries to strengthen strategic mutual trust, explore potential cooperation opportunities, maintain close coordination in multilateral forums, effectively manage differences, and promote stable and sustained development of their relationship.

Ajit Doval highlighted the significant opportunity presented by China and India as the world’s two most populous and fastest-growing major economies. He reiterated India’s willingness to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China, properly address the boundary question, and achieve new progress in bilateral relations.

The meetings signal ongoing efforts by both nations to manage their complex border issues while seeking broader cooperation amid a global backdrop marked by shifting geopolitical dynamics and economic challenges.
