A newly installed cliff elevator in China’s Nizhu river valley has significantly shortened the daily commute for local students, cutting what was once a lengthy and arduous journey down to just one minute. The double lift, which ascends 944 feet, can transport up to 1,200 passengers per hour, providing a vital connection between the village of Nizhuhe and the primary school located at the summit.
Previously, children in Nizhuhe faced a demanding hike of approximately three hours each way to attend classes. The introduction of this elevator aims to improve access to education by ensuring students arrive more quickly and safely, reducing the physical strain and time commitment required to reach the school.
