KUWAIT CITY — Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Yang Xin visited the Al-Fayez Diwaniya on June 13, immersing himself in Kuwaiti cultural traditions and social customs. During the visit, Yang wore the traditional Kuwaiti bisht, a cloak symbolizing prestige and social standing, and took part in customary practices such as sharing Arabic coffee and engaging in conversations among attendees.

The diwaniya, a central feature of Kuwaiti social life, serves as both a gathering place for dialogue and a venue to maintain and showcase the country’s heritage. Amid the aroma of oud, Ambassador Yang experienced an authentic representation of Kuwaiti identity and hospitality.

Yang documented his visit in a video shared on his Instagram account, where he appeared dressed in the bisht and received a warm reception from those present. The post garnered significant attention, with Yang adding a lighthearted caption: “He who lives with people for 40 days becomes one of them, and I, in one swoop, became a sheikh… Thank you to my Kuwaiti friends.” This comment underscored his appreciation for the kindness and generosity extended to him during the gathering.

Beyond its social dimension, the visit highlighted ongoing cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Kuwait and China. It provided Ambassador Yang the opportunity to engage personally with one of Kuwait’s most important social customs and reinforced the role of the diwaniya as a space for fostering communication, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

The event also emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to preserving its cultural legacy while building bridges of friendship with international communities, reflecting the broader diplomatic ties between the two nations.
