Chinese garment manufacturer Longteng Garment Co Ltd will invest $17 million to establish a factory in the Mongla Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Bangladesh, creating employment for more than 3,000 workers. The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) formalized the deal through a land lease agreement signed on Monday at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka.

The agreement was signed by BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain and Longteng Garment Chairman Lin Qiangqiang, with BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain and senior officials present at the ceremony. The factory will be constructed on approximately 16,426 square meters of land within the zone.

Once operational, the facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of six million pieces, focusing on underwear and bras. These products will be marketed under internationally recognized brands, including Aerie, Calvin Klein, Zara, Florence & Fred (Tesco), ASOS, and Primark. Key buyers will also include retailers such as H&M, Walmart, Marks & Spencer, and Gap.

The company intends to export its garments to multiple global markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Algeria, Brazil, Australia, Chile, Mexico, Iraq, Japan, and Canada. This move aligns with Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign direct investment in its export processing zones to boost industrial capacity and employment.

Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain welcomed the project, emphasizing the authority’s commitment to supporting investors like Longteng Garment Co Ltd in establishing and operating their businesses smoothly. As of September 2026, Mongla EPZ hosted 39 active enterprises with an additional 10 in various stages of implementation, highlighting the zone’s growing industrial base.
