Chinese investors have announced plans to develop a large-scale solar manufacturing facility and a cybersecurity hub in Oman, signaling increased international confidence in the country’s industrial and digital transformation goals under Oman Vision 2040. The announcements were made during the Future Fund Oman (FFO) investment showcase held on Tuesday.

Orion Solar and XCyber, two prominent Chinese firms, detailed projects aimed at bolstering Oman’s role in renewable energy production and digital security, while also generating high-skilled employment opportunities within the Sultanate.

Mark Jiang Pengjing, Deputy General Manager of Orion Solar, highlighted Oman’s strategic appeal as an investment destination, praising its clear long-term vision, dedication to sustainability, and supportive business environment. “In a world full of opportunities, we have chosen Oman because we firmly believe it will be one of the greatest success stories of the next decade,” Pengjing stated.

Orion Solar’s project, among the largest industrial ventures announced by FFO to date, entails establishing a fully integrated solar cell and module manufacturing complex in SOHAR Port and Freezone. The investment is valued at around RO 220 million (approximately $570 million) and aims to produce up to 6 gigawatts of solar cells and 3 gigawatts of solar panels annually.

This initiative aligns with Oman’s strategic objective to expand its renewable energy sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, positioning the Sultanate as a key player in regional clean energy development. The simultaneous focus on cybersecurity through XCyber’s planned regional hub also reflects Oman’s broader efforts to enhance its digital infrastructure and resilience amid growing cyber threats worldwide.

These projects underscore Oman’s ambition to diversify its economy and attract foreign direct investment by fostering innovation-driven industrial growth and technological advancement. Both Chinese firms cited Oman’s favorable investment climate and strategic geographic location as critical factors influencing their decision to launch these operations in the country.
