St Mirren forward Chris Mochrie has praised manager Craig McLeish’s tactical approach after the team secured a strong start to the Scottish Premiership season. The Buddies claimed a significant victory at Falkirk in McLeish’s first match as the club’s permanent head coach and now look to continue their momentum with an upcoming home game against newly promoted St Johnstone in Paisley.

Mochrie, 23, who joined St Mirren from Airdrie in May, highlighted the freedom McLeish allows his forwards in attack. “Last year I played up front a lot on my own,” Mochrie said. “But the gaffer has let us forwards off the leash. The manager backs you to do that and it gives everyone a little boost.”

Under McLeish’s system, the attacking players have flexibility in their positioning, often switching roles between central and wide attacking areas throughout the match. This fluidity aims to enhance creativity and goal-scoring opportunities. “It’s fluid. You might start wide or up front. But you won’t end up there for the whole game. It’s about creating chances. It doesn’t really matter what position you’re in,” Mochrie explained.
