The New York Mets will adjust their pitching rotation Tuesday as Christian Scott is placed on the injured list with a right hip impingement, while Kodai Senga is set to rejoin the starting staff. Manager Carlos Mendoza described Scott’s injury as not serious, but the move comes after the right-hander reported discomfort following his most recent outing. An MRI confirmed the impingement, and Scott received a cortisone injection to manage the condition. The Mets are hopeful his absence will be brief.
Scott had delivered a solid performance prior to the injury, posting a 3.10 ERA over nine starts this season. However, the hip discomfort did not improve after a side session on Sunday, prompting the team to activate Senga from his rehab assignment. Senga has been recovering from lumbar spine inflammation, which has hampered his effectiveness throughout the season. He recorded a 9.00 ERA in five starts before his latest stint in the minors.
Senga’s recent rehab outings have shown encouraging signs. His latest appearance for Double-A Binghamton saw him pitch six innings, allowing just one earned run on a single hit. Mendoza emphasized not only the positive results but also Senga’s reported physical readiness following these performances. After throwing a bullpen session Sunday, the right-hander was given the green light to return to major league action. Mendoza noted Senga’s enthusiasm about resuming competition at the big league level, expressing his willingness to continue rehab assignments if necessary but indicating he feels fully prepared.
Meanwhile, shortstop Francisco Lindor participated in a simulated game that involved hitting, base running, and fielding. He is currently recovering from a calf strain, and the team plans to continue this limited activity through the week before determining if a minor league rehab stint is warranted.
In roster moves ahead of Monday’s game against Cincinnati, the Mets recalled pitchers Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro from Triple-A Syracuse. Conversely, Daniel Duarte was optioned back to the minor leagues. Additionally, infielder Zack Short was acquired off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
The Mets’ adjustments come amid a challenging stretch, highlighted by a 12-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. The club will look to stabilize its rotation and bolster its lineup as it navigates these injury setbacks moving forward.
