Christopher Dean, former Olympic ice dance champion, has transitioned into a new role as a magistrate, continuing his public service in a markedly different arena. Dean, who rose to international fame alongside his skating partner Jayne Torvill, recently began presiding over cases in a local court, marking a significant shift from his distinguished athletic career.

Before his achievements on the ice, Dean served as a constable with Nottinghamshire Police. He first gained widespread recognition with Torvill after their gold medal performance at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, where their Bolero routine captivated an audience of 24 million viewers. Their partnership extended beyond competitive skating, with both appearing as trainers on ITV's Dancing On Ice from 2006 to 2014 and later returning as judges when the show was revived in 2018. The pair’s final television appearance took place during the show’s grand final in March 2025, following which they completed a 28-date farewell tour across the UK, concluding in Nottingham in July 2025.

While their entertainment career has recently concluded, Dean has quietly taken on judicial responsibilities. He has been sitting in judgment in court, handling various cases, including minor offenses such as a theft charge involving a sandwich. Sources close to Dean suggest that the former athlete chose this path to contribute positively to his community after retiring from professional skating.

In addition to his role in the judiciary, Dean is reportedly preparing to participate in a new spin-off of the reality series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, titled The Wild Frontier. Attempts to obtain an official comment from his spokesperson were unsuccessful.

Dean’s move into the magistracy highlights a post-athletic career dedicated to community service and legal adjudication, underscoring his continued public engagement beyond the world of sport and entertainment.
