At least 27 people died in a head-on collision involving a minibus and a truck near Chivhu, approximately 140 kilometers south of Harare, Zimbabwe, authorities reported. The minibus was carrying churchgoers en route to a conference when the crash occurred.

According to police, the foreign-registered haulage truck was attempting to overtake another vehicle on a flat, isolated stretch of road when it collided with the minibus. The exact number of passengers on both vehicles remains unclear. In addition to the fatalities, seven individuals sustained injuries in the accident.

Visual footage from the scene showed the minibus severely damaged and burned, while the truck was positioned on the opposite side of the road following the collision.

Road traffic accidents are frequent occurrences in Zimbabwe, often attributed to poorly maintained infrastructure and challenging driving conditions. Earlier this year, a separate minibus crash in April resulted in 18 deaths. Authorities continue to emphasize the need for improved road safety measures to reduce such incidents.
