A circus performer was injured by an arrow to the neck during a live act at the Orange County Fair in Wallkill, New York, on Friday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. as part of a crossbow sharp-shooting routine performed by Circus Murcia.

Edwin A. Cuervo Rangel, 38, was the victim of the mishap while holding a foam target that was meant to be shot by his fellow performer, Ana B. Daza Tavera, 42. According to New York State Police, Cuervo Rangel was struck by an arrow that unexpectedly hit his neck during the show, which drew an audience in a fairground located roughly 73 miles north of Midtown Manhattan.

Cuervo Rangel was promptly airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. Reports indicate that surgeons successfully removed the arrow. Benjamin Jackson, the circus’s ringmaster who has observed the act multiple times, described the injury as dangerously close to a more critical wound but noted that there was no external bleeding.

In response to the incident, officials instructed the crowd to evacuate the area as emergency personnel arrived. No other injuries were reported among those present.

Circus Murcia, known for its thrill acts including high-wire performances and the Globe of Death, remains scheduled to continue its shows through the fair’s closing day on Sunday. Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
